Amer Latif is Professor of Religion at Marlboro College in Southern Vermont.  He specializes in Islamic Studies with a focus on Sufism, especially as it is presented in the writings of 13th century figures like Rumi and Ibn al-‘Arabi.

Amer’s interest in the use of poetry and musical performances for creating sacred spaces within Islamic societies led to the publication of The Performance of Perplexity: A Sufi Approach to the Paradoxes of Monotheism.  Amer has published translations of Rumi’s poetry and is currently working on a monograph titled Signs of Scripture in the Book of Self: Rumi’s Interpretations of the Qur’an.
